She holds a degree in Aesthetics and Art Theory from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, from 1995 and completed her education in ceramics at Design School Kolding in 2006.
‘Student rebellion’ was the label the press applied to the criticism and protests from students who wanted to re-establish the core emphasis on practice and workshop activities after recent years’ growing emphasis on theory in the programme, which is now categorized as academic.
By contrast, in a meritocratic society, conventional education is open to all, providing opportunities – at least in theory – for everyone to rise to well-paid professional employment, even though comparatively few actually do.
